Aurora Chief of Police Godfrey Brokenrope was born in Phoenix, Arizona but has called the Greater Hamilton, Hall, and Howard Counties region his home for most of his life. Godfrey graduated from Doniphan High School and soon entered the military, serving in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 1984 where he was a Military Police Officer.
Beginning in 1989, Godfrey joined the City of Grand Island Police Department where he held several positions: Police Office, D.A.R.E. Officer, Field Training Officer, Defensive Tactic Officer, Criminal Investigator, and also as a Drug Investigator assigned to Tri City Federal Drug Task Force.
Godfrey Brokenrope joined the City of Aurora Police Department in 2000. Prior to his appointment as Chief of Police for the Aurora Police Department in 2006, Chief Brokenrope served as a Police Officer, Field Training Officer, Drug Recognition Expert and Police Sergeant.
As Chief of Police, Godfrey Brokenrope manages and controls all matters relating to the Police Department and its personnel; is responsible for the custody and control of all property and equipment belonging to the Police Department and serves as a member of the Board of Health.
Additionally, Brokenrope leads an active lifestyle enjoying running and motorcycle riding. Godfrey is heavily involved with today’s youth of the Aurora community. He currently volunteers at the Aurora Youth Center and has volunteered as a Tee Ball Coach, Youth Baseball Coach, and Youth Football Coach.
Chief Brokenrope and his wife Deb reside in Aurora with their three children Zach, J.D. and Kylie.
